Barefoot College

Barefoot College International is a women-led organization that puts skills and technology in the hands of marginalized women who become entrepreneurs, train others, and live sustainably. The organization opened its doors to serve the underserved and uplift the most marginalized and impoverished communities worldwide. By providing rural women with accessible training, they ensure that knowledge benefits communities for generations. The adoption of solar energy reduces fossil fuel usage, alleviating health issues while providing light for education and livelihood activities. This holistic approach improves the quality of life and fosters sustainable progress. Empowering women with skill development and opportunities leads to better health, job market competitiveness, and resilience, contributing to economic growth and a more prosperous, resilient society. Barefoot College International was born out of the belief that when people develop self-confidence and join together to solve problems, they learn that they can depend on themselves. They prioritize a sense of shared ownership throughout the BCI community and have trained women from 90+ countries, with fully established vocational training centers in Zanzibar, Madagascar, Senegal, and Guatemala.
