Our Story SIUA (Sede Interuniversitaria de Alajuela) is an inter-university academic campus established in February 2007 under CONARE Agreement N° 04-07. It unites four Costa Rican public universities—Universidad de Costa Rica (UCR), Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica (TEC), Universidad Nacional (UNA), and Universidad Estatal a Distancia (UNED)—in a single collaborative hub. Its mission is to deliver high-quality higher education tailored to the needs of Alajuela province, optimizing shared resources while minimizing student commuting. The campus currently enrolls over 2,000 active students and has graduated more than 1,200 students between 2009 and 2018, functioning as a regional engine for public university education. Teaching combines theoretical instruction with intensive laboratory practice in metrology, chemistry, physics, and computing. Classrooms and labs are equipped with interactive screens, projection, audio systems, and dual-platform computers running Windows and Linux. Beyond academics, the campus uses socio-educational methodologies—such as inter-university rallies, vocational fairs, and health-promotion activities—to foster integral personal development and community engagement. The campus also hosts an inter-university robotics team, folk-dance and choreographic groups, and spaces for recreational and health-promotion activities.
