Our Story Århus Akademi is the third oldest gymnasium in Aarhus, Denmark, founded in 1933. Today it enrolls approximately 550 students and stands as one of the country’s largest providers of 2-year upper secondary education. The school was originally built around the 2-year STX program, which remains central to its DNA, while it has also grown into one of Denmark’s foremost HF institutions. Its mission is to give students the best possible springboard to further education through reality-near teaching and strong social communities. Each class is supported by a teacher team of two instructors who ensure coherent onboarding, inter-teacher collaboration, and prompt follow-up on any issues. First-year students benefit from rotating buddy partnerships (makkerskaber), guaranteeing that everyone has a peer and no one is left outside the group. The pedagogy emphasizes an acknowledging tone and healthy classroom culture, with dedicated class-hours addressing group dynamics when needed. Learning is enriched by excursions, overnight study trips, and thematic events spanning topics such as UN Sustainable Development Goals, horror, and sexuality/consent.
