Our Story The Aarhus Academy of Fine Arts (Århus Kunstakademi) is an independent art education institution located in the heart of Aarhus, Denmark. Founded more than 50 years ago and housed in Schmalfeld's historic former tobacco factory buildings on Vestergade, the Academy has played a significant role in educating artists and craftspeople while actively contributing to the city's cultural life. Its mission is to provide meaningful and stimulating experiences of art, its practitioners, history, and craft through high professional standards and persistent social and artistic relevance. The Academy fosters a creative, open, and inspiring learning environment where emerging young artistic talents can develop. Programs & Trainings 🎓 4-Year Art Practice Programme — A comprehensive education structured around a one-year Foundation Course (Basisuddannelsen) starting every August, followed by a three-year Studio-Based Programme (Fagskolen) with specializations in Painting, Sculpture, Printmaking, or Ceramics. The programme runs 19 hours per week (Monday–Wednesday, 09:15–15:00) over 18 teaching weeks per semester. 🎓 Foundation Course (Basisuddannelsen) — The mandatory entry year for the four-year programme, running from August to late May/early June. Next application deadline: 6 April 2026. 🎓 Studio-Based Programme (Fagskolen) — Three-year advanced studio training starting twice yearly; direct entry possible for applicants with equivalent qualifications achieved elsewhere. The academic year is split into an autumn semester (August to mid-December) and a spring semester (January to end of May), each comprising 18 teaching weeks.
